Anti-Virus and Malware
Matrix IT recommends security products from McAfee, AVG, Symantec and Trend. In each case we carefully look at the requirements and make sue the appropriate solution is recommended. All of these manufacturers products are industry leaders for virus detection and removal, and provide very strong anti-spyware realtime scan engines for workstations, servers and e-mail systems.
Firewalls and Network Protection
Most hacks or security threats come from outside and around the internet. There are many 'bots', 'zombies' and 'trojans' out there looking for ways to gain access to your systems 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We know how important it is for our customer networks to be configured correctly to prevent the intruders from gaining a foothold on to the network. By ensuring firewall and routers are secure, allowing only authorised traffic to enter and leave the network, we make sure that you can sleep soundly knowing everything is going to be protected.
Windows Update
At Matrix IT Solutions we know if it difficult to keep all workstations and servers up to date with the latest service packs, hotfixes and security updates. We will configure your network to keep your Windows servers and desktops up to date with all of the latest software. These updates are key to making sure your Windows environment is secure and system vunerabilities are removed, closing the door on wouldbe hackers.
Microsoft have integrated their Windows Software Update Services (WSUS) into both Windows Server and Small Business Server to provide a centrally administered updating tool, that periodically checks machines/laptops on the network for compliance and automatically delivers security updates as necessary.
Large software updates, such as Internet Explorer upgrades, are downloaded and stored (or staged) on the local WSUS awaiting network administrator approval for installation across the organisation.
A single Internet download instance in WSUS masively reduces internet traffic, when compared to each individual workstation managing it's own downloads and updates.
Security Policies
Your Microsoft Windows Domain has a wealth of security configuration options which many business owners and even IT professionals are unaware of. The heart of this, known as Group Policy Objects, are the tools that can be used to provide one-to-many management of users and computer settings. Administrators can efficiently implement security settings, enforce IT policies, and distribute software consistently across a given domain, site or groups of users/computers.
Through these Group Policy you can control a multitude of user and computer options, from controlling the colour of a users desktop, through to restricting control panel items such as 'add/remove programs'.
Password Management
A system is only as secure as it's weekest link - often this is as simple as a user's password. At Matrix IT Solutions we take passwords seriously. Password policies can be enforced to control length and complexity, age and re-use of user passwords. We will run Microsoft's and other security analysis tools on your servers, to pinpoint secure holes in your setup and take remedial actions. The results of these tests hightlight missing security patches, and even weak password configuration.
