In its widest senses, any event that could negatively impact operations is included in the plan, such as supply chain interruption, loss of or damage to critical infrastructure. Disaster Recovery is more specific than business continuity planning but forms part of the BCP plan. This looks at recovery of specific business applications e.g. what happens if our server dies? We build Disaster Recovery around RPOs (Recovery Point Objectives) – the point in time from which you will recover your data, i.e. how much data can you afford to lose? And RTO (Recovery Time Objective) – how soon does a service or application have to be up and running again.
